Job Description

The participants hired for this position will begin training as dishwashers and food prep.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Cutting vegetables and making salads
  • Slicing lunch meats
  • Preparing sauces and making dough
  • Washing dishes
  • General clean-up in the kitchen
  • Assisting in putting away weekly orders that may involve lifting cases of food products and flour

Once trained in these areas, the participants may then be requested to work in the position of line cook or sandwich maker.

While working as a line cook, duties will include:

  • Preparing hoagies, sandwiches, salads, burgers, fried foods, wraps, and chicken wings
  • Participants may also be given the opportunity to learn how to prepare pasta dishes and make pizza

Working as a line cook will require an understanding of the menu and food items the restaurant serves, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with the wait staff in English.

  • Participants may be required to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
  • Participants will also be required to use cleaning chemicals and be able to work in warm climates.
  • Participants are required to review menu items sent to them by the employer prior to arrival.
  • Participants may be required to handle or prepare menu items containing pork.
  • Participants may be eligible for a raise during the season at the employer’s discretion, depending on their work performance.

Job Benefits

The employer provides free uniform shirts and aprons to participants.

The employer will also provide information on cultural activities in the area and may facilitate various site seeing tours for participants, if time permits.

PLEASE NOTE ABOUT SECOND JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN SEA ISLE CITY:

  • While there are other employers in Sea Isle City who hire Work and Travel participants, in previous seasons it has not been necessary for participants at Angelo’s to look for second jobs, due to the number of hours they have received at Angelo’s.
  • However, if participants do find second jobs, the employer would like to remind them that their job at Angelo’s will remain their first priority with regards to scheduling. If participants working a second job were to interfere with their availability to work at Angelo’s, it may put their employment at Angelo’s at risk.

Housing Description

The employer has two housing options for participants, one for females only and one for males only.

Female participants will be provided with a studio apartment that can accommodate up to 4 people. The address is 116 42nd St. The apartment is located on the ground floor of the Manager’s private home and is 1 block from the restaurant. The apartment has its own private entrance and exit. There are two sets of bunk beds in the apartment and 1 full bathroom. There is no kitchen, but the apartment has a microwave and a small refrigerator/freezer located in a common dining area. There is also an outside shower for use when returning from the beach. A television with cable, bed sheets, and towels are provided. Rent is due each week on Monday.

For male participants, the employer is currently working to secure a 1 bedroom apartment with kitchen and bathroom for 4 participants to share. Rent will be $90 to $100 per person per week. Housing details will be available by February 28, 2025.

Housing Deposit Required

Participants are required to pay a $125 deposit in cash upon arrival. The deposit will be returned to participants at the end of their program, on the condition that 1) there are no damages to the apartment and 2) that participants work through their DS-2019 End Date. Participants are also required to pay the first week’s rent, $115 in cash upon arrival. After that, rent is due every Monday. Rent is due for a total of 14 weeks, and after the 14th week, no additional rent is due. This also includes all of the participants meals while working. All participants are required to pay upon arrival a $30.00 cleaning and internet fee, which is non- refundable. This $30 fee covers the cost of cleaning the apartment at the end of the season and the cost of internet/WiFi for the duration of the season.

Sea Isle City has grown from a small fishing village into one of the Jersey Shore’s most spectacular vacation resorts. The clean, white sandy beaches and peaceful meadows have been attracting vacationers for many years.

Sea Isle City offers a diverse array of restaurants and shops, biking, boating, swimming, free summer concerts, and strolls along the famous promenade.

Remark

The restaurant is not as busy at the start of the summer, from the beginning of May through the first half of June. Then, the restaurant gets very busy from mid- June through mid-September.
