Job Description

As a food counter attendant, participants will be responsible for food preparation and for serving food and drinks at the restaurant.

Participants will always be working with a trained supervisor.

Food preparation job duties include:

  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Peeling potatoes, carrots, and other vegetables for soups and salads
  • Preparing condiment trays and tubs for the sandwich table
  • Helping to plate food
  • Keeping condiment tubs and trays filled

Serving job duties include:

  • Delivering food orders from the kitchen to the dining room
  • Washing food preparation bowls, pots and utensils
  • Clearing and setting dining room tables

Additional job duties include:

  • Cleaning the restaurant either during their shift or at the end of their shift
  • Washing dishes
  • Tracking and handling inventory
  • Taking customers’ orders
  • Operating the cash register to accept payment and give change

Participants should be prepared to be trained and assigned to work in all aspects of the restaurant’s operations.

* When assigned to clean the restaurant, participants will be coming into contact with and using cleaning chemicals.

Participants will interact with customers from all over the United States, Canada, and other countries.

Job Benefits

  • The employer will provide participants with at least one free ticket to the Medora Musical, where shows run nightly during the summer season through mid-September.
  • There are a number of cultural sites and activities in Medora for participants to experience, including the awesome 4th of July fireworks, the September 11th Hot Air Balloon Festival, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and the Dakota Dinosaur Museum in Dickinson.
  • In previous seasons, the employer has provided transportation at the end of the season to some of the area’s local attractions, like Theodore Roosevelt National Park or Mount Rushmore National Park in South Dakota’s Black Hills.

Housing Description

Participants share a large 5-bedroom apartment located directly above the restaurant. Participants share bedrooms, with up to 3 participants in a room. Each participant will have their own bed. The employer has bunk beds and individual beds.

Participants will share a full kitchen with some kitchenware provided for cooking. The apartment has 1 and 1/2 bathrooms with 2 toilets, 2 sinks, 1 bathtub/shower, and 1 shower. There is a washer and dryer in the apartment for laundry. Participants are also given access to a safe where they can keep their documents and valuables.

Participants will have access to wireless internet in the housing at no additional cost.

The employer creates a cleaning schedule for participants with rotating cleaning assignments which they must follow.

Participants can move into their housing upon arrival in the U.S.

The employer will collect rent from participants in cash and will issue a receipt to participants for each month’s rent collected.

Housing Rate

$150 per month

Housing Deposit Required

Participants are required to pay a $150.00 housing deposit upon arrival. The deposit is payable in cash to the employer. The deposit will be refunded to participants by check at the end of the summer, before they depart the U.S., if the following conditions are met: 1) Upon final inspection, the employer determines that participants have left their housing clean and in the condition it was given to them. 2) Participants work through their DS-2019 End Date The employer reserves the right to conduct housing inspections throughout the season, to ensure participants are keeping their housing clean and well maintained. The employer will notify participants prior to inspection. If a participant is fired or quits their job before their DS-2019 End Date, the employer reserves the right to give them a 24-hour notice to leave their housing. The employer will, however, take into account participants’ individual situation before giving such notice.

Community Description

Medora is a small resort town located on the western edge of North Dakota. It is home to the Medora Musical and the gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

It is a very beautiful area. The National Park covers 110 square miles of badlands and is packed with native plants and animals, including buffalo, wild horses, elk, and bighorn sheep.

Over 400,000 visitors visit Medora during the summer season.
