As a server, participants will be taking customers’ orders, accepting payment, serving food and beverages (including beer and wine), and preparing menu items such as sandwiches, espresso, and ice cream. Servers will perform additional duties such as clearing tables, cleaning the cafe and seating areas, and restocking product. Servers must be professional, polite, and reliable. They must speak great English to be able to understand and converse with customers and they must be able to learn and describe food proficiently. Servers also need to be familiar with the menu, with how the food is prepared, what it tastes like and if special requests are allowed. They need to be informed about menu specials and special events.

Servers who are under 21 may be considered, however it is preferred that they are 21 and older so they can adequately speak to the flavor profiles of the beer and wine offerings from experience. Within 30 days of hire, servers will need to obtain a Food Handler’s certification and alcohol servers permits. The employer will assist with this process.

The employer prefers to hire non-smokers, however, participants who smoke must comply with the break/meal period and designated smoking areas policy.
