Job Description

Participants main duties include selling candy and ice cream, stocking shelves, cleaning up, and using the cash register.

As a cashier, participants will be responsible for taking payment for items customers wish to purchase and serving it to them. This position requires a strong understanding of U.S. currency and the ability to work a computer-based system and a credit card machine. Participants must be patient, optimistic, and cheerful to perform this job successfully. Participants must have excellent English and customer service skills.

Stocking will consist of moving ice cream making materials and participants will be lifting up to 25 pounds.

Cleaning duties consist of sweeping and mopping at store closing, washing dishes, cleaning counters, and possibly cleaning of ice cream machinery. Also, general cleaning and shop upkeep is required. Participants may use cleaning chemicals.

Job Benefits

Participants receive a 50% discount. Participants have the possibility of an hourly pay raise depending on job performance.

Housing Description

All participants will live in the dormitory located right in the heart of downtown Put-in-Bay. Participants can walk to all needed amenities on the island including work, the post office, grocery store, and bank. The dormitory has two floors, divided by gender, with common bathrooms and coin-operated laundry facilities on each floor. The lounge area on the first floor has food and beverage vending machines, a television, and a kitchenette which includes a sink, microwave, and hot water tap. All rooms house two participants and have one bunk bed set, 2 dressers, and a closet. Linens and WiFi are provided but participants should provide their own cookware. The dorm is supervised by a dorm manager who lives on premises. The dorm is locked, has cameras, and is very safe and clean.

Participants who end employment for any reason will need to vacate the housing within 48 hours.

$75 per week

Housing Deposit Required

A $100 deposit is due upon arrival and will be deducted from the participants first two paychecks. If a participant stays until the end of the housing contract and has kept their room in good condition, the deposit will be returned in the final check.

Community Description

While Put-in-Bay is technically a village on South Bass Island, the name commonly is used to refer to the entire island. A summer resort since the mid-1800’s, the town can be considered the hub of tourism among the Lake Erie Islands, with its numerous taverns, wineries, restaurants, and hotels. Along with the festive atmosphere of downtown Put-in-Bay, there are key pieces of American history to discover, relaxing outdoor activities, and natural splendor.
