Community Description

Put-in-Bay is a summer resort island with a tourism season beginning in early April and ending Halloween weekend with an amusing array of costumes. While “Put-in-Bay” is technically a village on South Bass Island, the name is commonly used to refer to the entire island. A summer resort since the mid-1800’s, the town can be considered the hub of tourism among the Lake Erie Islands, with its numerous taverns, wineries, restaurants, and hotels. Along with the festive atmosphere of downtown Put-in-Bay, there are key pieces of American history to discover, relaxing outdoor activities, and natural splendor. While the permanent population of the island is only about 400 people, this number swells to the thousands during the tourist season.
