Job Description

Lifeguard / Pool Operator 

This position reports to the lead guard, lifeguard supervisor, assistant water/theme
park manager, maintenance director, aquatics director, general manager, and owners.

The Lifeguard is responsible for monitoring the well-being of guests, ensuring their
safety by preventing and responding to emergency situations both in and out of water.
Should an emergency occur, lifeguards are responsible for taking quick and decisive
action and providing the appropriate emergency care.

Training will take place during the first three days of arrival.

Specific duties may include but are not limited to any combination of the following:

  • Ensuring guest safety and provide exceptional guest service.
  • Standing/sitting in and out of water for long periods of tim
  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Inspect facility as required and report any unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Maintaining skills at a rescue-ready level at all times.
  • Remain alert and attentive at all times.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Maintain professional lifeguarding practices at all times.
  • Keep the facilities and property clean and comfortable for guests.
  • Female employees are expected to work even during menstruation.
  • Report to work, in uniform, no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled shift
  • Clock-in and out using property landline phone
  • Ensure the safety of the facility patrons
  • Enforce facility policies, rules, and regulations
  • Monitor gate control including checking patron’s identification cards
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service sessions
  • Respond to patron inquiries and concerns
  • Complete the general care and cleaning of the facility and perform minor
    maintenance and repair of swimming pool equipment
  • Inspect facility and report unsafe conditions and equipment to the supervisor
  • Maintain daily records as outlined in the Log Book and complete daily reports
  • Perform lifeguarding duties
  • Manage daily pool operations including circulation system and water quality
  • Complete incident/accident reports as needed
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or other Company designee

Required skills : In addition to a strong command of English, this position is physically demanding and requires:

American Red Cross Training and Pool Operator Certification. Employment as a
Lifeguard will be dependent upon successfully passing certification test, which includes
both written and physical testing.

  • Must be in good physical condition with 20/20 vision with or without correction and
    normal hearing.
  • Ability to swim X distance in X amount of time
  • Must be able to maintain and present a professional appearance. Visible excessive tattoos and similar body art must be covered during business hours.
  • Alert and strong attention to detail
  • Effective and efficient decision making
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, both in and out of water
  • Requires bending, lifting, pushing, climbing, standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in outside elements of heat, humidity, rand and wind
  • Outgoing, friendly personalities are best suited for this position.
  • Must Read and sign the Life Guard Skill Acknowledgement and Terms of Agreement.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs., bend, stoop, and kneel.

All Sunset Pool lifeguards must be certified by the American Red Cross. These classes
cost $200 which can be paid in advance or deducted from your paycheck.
In order to be eligible for the class the participant must first pass the swim test which
consists of :

  • Swimming 300 yards ( 1 yard equals 0.9 meters) continuously using any of the
    combinations listed below:

1. 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and propellant kick
2. 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breath, kicking glide sequence
3. 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke

  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7
    10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the
    starting point with the object and then exit the water without using a ladder or steps
    within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive an
American Red Cross Certification for Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED valid for 2
years.

Pool Operator License is required in certain areas. If needed, we will assist you with
obtaining this license. Depending on the county/city regulations there may be a cost of
$0 – $75 which can be paid in advance or deducted from your paycheck.

Work schedule : Varies 9am -10pm

Average hours per week : 48+ per week (depends on the area)

  • First-time guard: $15.25/hr + $0.50/hr performance bonus = $15.75/hr
  • Returning guard: $15.50/hr + $0.50/hr performance bonus = $16.00/hr

Job Benefits

Bonuses are $0.50/hr for total hours worked, based on performance and successful
completion of the program. They will be paid at the end of the season, which ends on
September 1, 2025, or by the DS-2019 expiration date.

*Bonus Requirements:

  • 1st written warning will not affect the bonus
  • 2nd written warning will reduce the bonus rate by 1/2 for the entire duration of
    employment
  • 3rd written warning will disqualify participant from receiving a bonus

Transportation details : Depends on location: Walk/bike/public transport. Please be aware that it may take 2-3 weeks to receive your first paycheck. Make sure that you plan accordingly. If you chose to purchase a bicycle, you should expect to spend at minimum $100.

Sunset Pool Management provides a partially furnished apartment which includes a
refrigerator, a stove/oven, washer and dryer (some locations may be coin operated),
table, chairs, lamps and air mattress.
Please be aware that the housing is co-ed and is set up similar to a college dormitory.
Therefore, you will be sharing a room with 2-3 students (mixed gender occupancy)
